At CloudFactory, we believe that we are one body with many parts, and we work together to collaborate with and support one another. One way we do that in service of our clients is by working in teams, or small groups data analysts, to deliver the work. I’ve been at CloudFactory for 2 years, and I lead some of these teams in their work for our clients.
As a team lead, I have managed my own team, led data analyst teams for our clients, and supported my colleagues in managing their client work.
I work with clients who produce solutions across a range of industries, from agriculture technology to sports analytics. This has required me to apply my expertise in AI and machine learning and learn about each client’s business requirements so we can process data most efficiently and accurately to help them achieve their goals. Every day is different but the overall day of a CloudFactory team lead will include one or all of these activities:
1. Onboarding a new client
When onboarding a new client; I meet the client for the first time, learn about their requirements, and work collaboratively on the task to understand what is expected of the team that will be working on their tasks. I onboard workers by training and scheduling them to work on the tasks depending on the client’s requests.
2. Managing an existing project
Once a client is onboarded, I ensure that it remains healthy by being in communication with the workers and client to look out for any risks and opportunities, monitor performance, retrain and coach the workers on new use cases, and more. We use CloudFactory’s technology platform to collaborate with workers and clients. We also have weekly video-call check-ins to share information that is difficult to communicate in writing.
3. Offboarding a project
Like everything in life, everything with a beginning has an end, and so it is with some projects we work on. When offboarding a client, I write a report on the work, how the team performed, why the project came to an end, and any learnings that we can implement for other clients.
4. Personal career growth
Winston Churchill once said success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts. This is true for me in my personal life and in the workplace, so I strive to continually grow in ways that not only improve my performance but also have a positive effect in CloudFactory’s workplace, for the team I lead, and for the clients I serve. I learn from my colleagues, taking online courses, attending workshops, and reading books. CloudFactory provides weekly opportunities for us to meet in small groups with our colleagues from around the world in a small group, where we can build relationships with one another and learn about a topic of interest to us.
Just in case you are wondering, before the COVID-19 pandemic, when we were still working in the office, my day could start as early as 7:00 a.m. and end as late as 6:00 p.m. in the office with client calls at 8:00 p.m. from home. Or, it could be a short day that starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends by 3:00 p.m. Now that we are working from home, my day can start at 5:00 a.m. (my wonderful boys who are ages three and one are still asleep) and end at any time depending on what is required on that particular day.
All in all, I really enjoy my work as a delivery team lead, as it gives me the opportunity to interact with people with different cultures, ages, world views, experiences, and industries. This contributes to my having a broader understanding of life. Work is an important part of our lives and I believe it should be meaningful work: I want the opportunity to positively impact others, because it contributes to my fulfillment in life. That’s the opportunity that CloudFactory provides for me and so many other people across the four continents where we work.
