A major earthquake hit Nepal April 25th where CloudFactory has 125 employees and about 3,000 cloud workers concentrated in and around Kathmandu. Thank you to everyone who has reached out - we appreciate your thoughts and prayers in this difficult situation. Our primary concern at this time is for the safety and well-being of our workers, their families and the people of Nepal.
We’re in contact with key team members and have heard from the majority of employees who are safe. The CloudFactory offices themselves have been reported to be unaffected and at this time we know of no fatalities or injuries among our team but family homes have been destroyed in some cases. We will be sharing updates below as additions to this blog post as we gather more information.
How to Help:
Many CloudFactory friends have asked how they can help earthquake victims on the CloudFactory team. We’re grateful for these requests and have set up a relief fund through GoFundMe specifically for CloudFactory employees, cloud workers and their families.
Please note that any gift made directly for CloudFactory employee earthquake relief won’t be tax deductible. All gifts will be expended in their entirety for CloudFactory Nepal earthquake relief.
For those who want to help contribute to the broader relief effort, there are several relief funds through nonprofits for which donations would be tax-deductible (but not specifically directed to CloudFactory earthquake victims). For now we’re directing people to Samaritan’s Purse, they’ve done tremendous work in Nepal in the past: Samaritan’s Purse
Operational Update
CloudFactory’s technical infrastructure is distributed in the cloud and not affected by the earthquake. In addition, initial inspections indicate that CloudFactory’s physical facilities in Kathmandu have escaped significant damage.
As additional information becomes available, we will be providing ongoing operational updates directly to our valued clients.
Providing Leadership to Our Communities
CloudFactory’s mission is to connect 1 million people to online work, while raising them up as leaders to address poverty in their own communities. CloudFactory has trained several thousand young Nepali people how to lead, organize and offer service to their communities. We will be working together in the days and weeks ahead to help the families of our workers and the communities in which they live.
We look forward to helping the great people of Nepal rebuild. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
